Ping G5 Review by T.R.S., April 17, 2008
Iron play used to be my strong point. I had a set of Wilson TN 1200’s that I hit very well. Four years ago I bought a new Taylormade 540 XD Driver and fell in love. I absolutely crushed it and subsequently purchase a Taylormade 580 3,5, and 7 wood that I will never part with. However, since the woods worked so well for me, I purchased a set of RAC HT’s right off the rack with graphite shafts. The biggest mistake I ever made. I never hit the irons well and eventually lost all confidence. Then my daughter gave me a gift certificate to Golf Galaxy in Rochester, NY. I took the HT’s with me for trade in and got fitted for the Ping G5’s. WOW! The young man that fit me laughed because I turned out to be a silver(4 degrees upright) and the shafts were made an inch longer. I am 6′ 2″ and have an upright stance so I could never have picked a set off the rack. These are the finest irons I have ever used. I now hit shots that I could only dream about, two months ago. Do yourself a favor, GET FITTED! All the difference in the world. I have hit almost every quality iron made at one time or another and nothing comes close to the Ping G5 in Look, Feel, Balance, and Playability.

I can’t say enough about these irons. I previously was using Ping i3+ blue dots. After getting fitted, I realized I was actually a white dot. I cannot stress enough how important it is to get fitted. After taking some practice shots with the G5’s what a difference. The club is super lite with CS Light Regular shafts. Amazing feel and forgiveness. This was just from practice shots in the store. I can’t wait to get these puppies out on the course. I wish I had been fitted a long time ago.

I have had way too many drivers. I have always hit the tee shots to the right. I had a great driver in the Callaway C4 but my clubs were stolen and never really capured the C4’s magic… until The Ping G5 a slow take away and rip it and the ball goes as straight as a straight thing going straight. My golf buddys are very impressed and as a result I am on the fairway and confident at hitting a great second shot.My handicap will be cut soon.

Before purchasing the G5 irons I demo’d almost every iron available. No matter how hard I tried I always found myself holding every iron to the standard set by the Ping G5 irons. These clubs simply hit the ball high, straight, and long. The fitting process was amazing as I found my ball flight go from a slight fade or slice, to a soft draw as my color code was dialed in to a white (3 degrees upright). I never fully understood how custom fitting could help my game, but now I would never buy an off the shelf set again. Since I started using these irons a couple of months ago my accuracy and distance have increased dramatically, and I am now able to stop the ball on the green and even have it check up and come back with the short irons. I would highly recommend these clubs to anyone looking for “game improvement irons”.

When I bought my original Ping G2 I never thought I would find a more forgiving driver. But the G5 is even better about 15 yards longer and better height even though my old driver was a 10.5 loft.

This is the longest and most forgiving driver i have ever played.

I love my G5 irons. I wasn’t a serious golfer until I took this last summer off. I know most of my improvement came from proper lessons. From 115 down to consistent low 90s. And my record low of 84. I have confidence in these clubs and would buy them again, or the Raptures. I’ve let other good golfers hit them and they can’t believe how easy they are to hit straight, and how they good they are on mis hits. Also bought driver, 3 wood, and hybrid. Spent a lot but I’ll keep them a long time. Love the way they wear too. They don’t look all beat up like the shiny chrome Callaways I had previously too.

best club i’ve ever hit. i can’t complain about it since it has never failed me….after you hit these, your arm and back will love you for buying these babies.

WOW, WOW, AND WOW. These are awesome irons. I am a decent golfer that used to shoot pretty consistant scores sub 80, BC(before children). I finally swallowed my pride and realized that tour type irons are no longer working for me since I don’t get to play as often. I have gone up to 84-88 in the past 5 years and decided to make a change last week. The feel and overall foregiveness of these irons is amazing. First time out, carded 42 on the front and was a bit concerned, but after getting used to the feel, I fired at 8/9 greens on the back and carded a 35!! I haven’t shot 1 under par in 5 years! Simply awesome. Pay the money, you won’t need another set unless you wear these out playing. I tried the Cobras, Calloways, and Cleveland, and these are by far, the most forgiving.

Having purchased the Ping G5 irons some 6 months ago, these clubs have not only improved my game but my confidence to attack the pin. Within 3 months I’d moved from High 80’s to low 80’s, and within the past 4 weeks shot my two best rounds of 79 and 76. Custom fitted is a must, the only change I made was buying tour SW & LW both added to my game. Top marks for the supurb irons, looking next to consider G5 Driver…

I was using an R5 which I could hit a nice draw or fade when I wanted but I was losing distance (av drive about 240) although mostly in the fairway. I searched for something that was as easy to shape, forgiving but that would also add about 15 - 20 yards to my average drive. The G5 with the Grafalloy Prolauch XS shaft was perfect. I have hit a couple which have got close to the 280 mark (bearing in mind its the middle of the winter so ball wont travel) but average is definitely around the 270, and on the fairway. Excellent club that needs to be hit. though.
Ping G5 Review by S Miller, July 24, 2008
The best clubs that I have ever played with. These clubs feel great, and I have never had the confidence in hitting my irons like I do with these. I was a die hard Cleveland loyal customer until I tried these clubs.

All I can say is WOW!!!!
I had been playing Callaway for the last three years, and very happy with them.
I got the new X18 pro this year and had a lot of trouble with hooks. I traded them in for the G5s, and what a difference.
My game is back and straight as ever.
I have played three times, and all have been 79, 79 and 78.
Great clubs, excellent control and trajectory.

I played Eye 2’s for 20 years exactly. ZZ Lite, stiff, 2 degress flat (orange dot) Got a new driver, 3 wood, so I figured I’d look at irons. I’m a PING guy. Tried the Rapture and G5. I turned 50 last year. The guy finally had me at Red dot (1% flat), CS Lite, regular steel. On the machine I gained 5 yards on the wedges and hit them string straight. Bought them and just cannot believe how straight they are. It is just about impossible to miss one. So light. Such a nice set up. Bought 4 - Gap and added the sand. Wish i had bought the gap years ago. Only downside was the big money, even for steel. Raptures were more money and i did not carry them as far.

Good looking club with v slight toe in. Vital to keep slow tempo and give the shaft a chance to exert its max potential - then high takeoff and excellent carry
Ping G5 Review by ray, September 4, 2008
Great irons!! I am a monster club junkie, and have owned or played most everything. I got a great deal off Ebay, and switched from a set of Zevo ZV-2 irons, which are a great set as well (very soft feel, like CG4’s), but I like the G5’s much better. More solid and consistent. They are white dot and plus 1?, and hit a full club longer than the Zevos, which are pretty long as well. I usually hit a 8 iron 150ish, now 160ish… don’t know if it the length or the lofts. VERY easy to hit solid, great trajectory, good feel, not as soft as the Zevos, but nice. These have a much heavier feel (swingweight?) than the previous Pings I have played, and that is great, as I thought most pings (Eye2, Zing, Zing2, i3) were great, but too darn light.. ISI’s suck. My set is 4-LW, and they all are a joy to hit. Should be in the bag for a long time, but I have said that before!! I am getting tired of switching irons, tho, I do believe that a guy has to keep a set for many months to ge the full automatic thing going and really get in the groove. These are sweet irons, so maybe the search is over.
